Light Lavender Sea Glass Stud Earrings

Light lavender sea glass stud earrings. My earrings are made with genuine, beach found sea glass. I chose a simple setting to accent the natural beauty of the sea glass.

Lavender sea glass can be dated to before 1915. Manganese was used as an additive to clear glass at this time. Since manganese is UV reactive, the clear glass that sat in the bottom of the ocean for over 100 years slowly turned a beautiful light lavender to darker lavender color. The range in color can also be due to the amount of manganese added to each particular glass batch.

Process:
To create these earrings, I choose two pieces of sea glass that match closely in size, shape, and color. The settings are created using traditional silversmithing techniques including sawing, filing, soldering, and hand polishing.
